What is the “Pledge and Commitment” initiative?

The “Pledge and Commitment” initiative invites people in the UAE to express their appreciation for the country, its leadership, and the stability and security they enjoy there. It also aims to strengthen unity, civic responsibility, and national identity. Participation is voluntary.

It complements other community and national identity programs in the UAE but stands out for its simplicity: there are no lengthy forms or application processes, just a quick registration on a website.

How to sign the UAE pledge online

  1. Open pledge.ae. Type the address into your browser rather than following links from social media or messages. It works in a mobile browser as well as on a computer.
  2. Choose your language. The platform supports several, including Arabic, Urdu, Bengali, Malayalam, Chinese and Filipino.
  3. Read the pledge text. Take a moment to read what you’re signing (more on this below).
  4. Enter your name and email. Launch coverage described these as the details requested. If the site asks for anything more, follow what the official page says.
  5. Add family members if you wish. The sign-up has an option to include family members, where you select how many are joining.
  6. Confirm to sign. Select the button to take part.
  7. Download your certificate. Save it straight away, because it’s the only record of your participation.

The whole process takes a few minutes, and signing is free. Nobody should ask you for payment at any point.

Your certificate of appreciation

After signing, you receive a personalized Certificate of Appreciation that you can download and share. It carries your name, the Pledge and Commitment branding and the mark of Sandooq Al Watan, the organization behind the online platform.
Some practical tips:

  • Save a copy to your phone or computer when you first receive it.
  • Think before you post it. The certificate shows your full name, so check your privacy settings if you share it on social media.
  • Printing is optional. Many people keep it as a digital keepsake.

What does the pledge say?

  • living in peace and coexistence
  • preserving national values and passing them on to future generations
  • playing an active part in the country’s continued development and prosperity

Background: who launched it and when

This initiative was launched on May 19, 2026, at the Abu Dhabi Energy Centre by Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, the Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence. He was the first to sign, followed by 30 prominent figures. More than 4,800 people participated in the launch, including citizens, residents, students, business leaders, and community representatives.

On June 3, the signing of the pledge was opened to the public through Sandooq Al Watan, a non-profit organization that supports Emirati national identity and values. The General Secretariat of the Cabinet also expressed its support, stating that it would promote the initiative across various ministries, federal authorities, and government institutions.

Why many residents are engaging with this

For many expatriates, the UAE begins as a temporary stopover. A job brings people here, and they plan to stay for just a few years. Then, careers are built, children are born, friendships are formed, and the place becomes home.

For those in that position, the pledge is a way to express this sentiment. Some view it as an act of gratitude for the opportunities and stability they have found. Others regard it as a personal choice, opting not to sign it. Both perspectives are valid, and the initiative is entirely voluntary.

Stay safe: use the official site only

When an initiative spreads quickly, copycat sites and messages tend to follow. To be safe:

  • Go to pledge.ae directly.
  • Don’t enter card or banking details, and don’t pay anyone. Signing is free.
  • Be wary of links that arrive by message and ask for personal documents.
